The Difference Between “I Feel” and “I Think”
The distance between the phrase “I feel” and “I think” can’t even be measured in mikes. Allowing not only your mind, but your body and psyche to actually feel an emotion can be the difference between understanding and not understanding.
I Feel is greater than I think about it.
I Feel is greater than I Assume it.
I Feel is greater than I ignore it.
Bottom line is, when you allow yourself to feel, your world opens up a bit.
There was a time when the world around us made us feel something instead of making us think we knew what happened, think we knew what that sensation was, think we could explain it. Now we even find ourselves analyzing or directing or complaining when it comes to our response. …Or, we just ignoring it all together.
We look at the world around us and the problems within it, and just can’t understand why. How or more precisely, when did it get away from us? Well, maybe just maybe, if more people allowed themselves to feel, some of those problems we see out there would go away. Most certainly, if we taught our children how to feel and even more importantly, taught them that it’s OK to feel both the problems and the answers, some of those problems around us today, would go away.
With that in mind, it sure seems that the key to making things better always comes back to this… It’s got to happen within us first!
But first, we need to know, or remember what certain things feel like, right? So for the next few minutes, try your hand at these 5 questions that, from time to time, we should probably all ask ourselves. This is set up to be very freeing, no pressure to get “the right answer” because nobody else will know what you’re doing or what you’re answers are. (Well, nobody but you...)
Good luck…
•What does it feel like to be happy?
•What does it feel like to feel alive?
•What does it feel like to walk barefoot through the soft grass?
•What does it feel like to hear your favorite sound?
•What does it feel like, how does it feel to allow yourself to actually feel?
Normally this is the point where I’d do my best to wrap things up. This time though, that’s up to you. I really hope you’ll end up taking a few minutes and answering these questions. They’ve helped me quite a bit. I’d love to hear what you think and what, if anything, you learned.
Lemme know…
Peace
